No God Like The Mother: Kesha Ajose-fisher

In celebration of ‘Black History Month 2024’, My Hair My Health PDX is excited to welcome Kesha Ajose-Fisher for the launch of our 2024 Book Club. This will be a virtual discussion with the author about her book ‘No God Like The Mother’. Please scroll down to read about the author and register for the event.

Kesha Ajose-Fisher is the author of No God Like the Mother, a short story collection which won the 2020 Oregon Book Award in fiction. She is also an Oregon Literary Fellow and an aspiring leader of her very own dog army. She currently lives in Portland with her spouse, children and poodles, and is working on an upcoming novel and another collection of short stories.

Much of her written work is guided by her childhood in Africa and America and an unshakable urge to change the female experience in the world. As a former social worker for immigrant and refugee families, she now spends her days hiking in the mornings, writing, and advocating for social justice through her work. Sometimes, she sleeps, sometimes she's consumed by the world's troubles, sometimes she remembers the good, and that makes it all worthwhile.
